A True Specialist in Advanced Urinary Reconstruction

Dr. Osterberg is a true specialist and one of only a handful in the state of Texas and the southwest region of the United States with advanced training in urologic reconstruction.  His fellowship focused specifically on male reconstructive techniques to restore urinary normalcy. He was the first urologist in central Texas who focused exclusively on male urethral stricture disease and has since expanded his practice to include other complex reconstructive surgeries.  He and his team have now performed over 600 urologic reconstructive surgeries.

Dr. Osterberg’s focus on male reconstruction and men’s health/ prosthetics came from his desire to improve and restore quality-of-life.  The urinary conditions that are a part of survivorship, following radiation or surgery, are often overlooked Dr. Osterberg treats all types of urologic complications from surgery, radiation, trauma, etc. including urethral scar tissue, urinary fistulae, leakage of urine, erectile dysfunction, curvature of the penis, and voiding dysfunction using state-of-the-art techniques.  Dr. Osterberg’s ability to improve a patient’s quality-of-life is the thing he finds most satisfying in his work.

Dr. Osterberg’s training allows him to provide specialized care in a variety of areas:

  • Treatment of complications from prior urologic surgery or prostate cancer treatments including – bladder neck contractures, rectal fistulas, incontinence, and erectile dysfunction
  • Urethral stricture disease – using advanced techniques, Dr. Osterberg can repair the urinary tube using grafts and other techniques to restore proper flow and function. Dr. Osterberg was the first surgeon in central Texas to use the Optilume balloon in procedures that require urethral dilation, which allows procedures to be done in the office instead of in the hospital under general anesthesia.
  • Ureteral scar – using robotic surgery, Dr. Osterberg can reconstruct the drainage pipe from the kidney and prevent kidney failure.
  • Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction and Peyronie’s Disease (curvature of the penis) aimed at restoring intimacy for men by using grafts and penile implants.
  • Treatment of stress incontinence or leakage with the use of male slings and sphincter implants that allow men to get back to life again
  • Surgical repair of Urinary Fistulas to restore the natural connections of the body between the urethra, rectum, and/or bladder
  • Transitional urology for children and adolescents who have neurologic conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida or a congenital need for an adult urologist
  • Cosmetic Urology – an emerging field that blends principles of plastic surgery with urology. Dr. Osterberg has the skills to treat aesthetic conditions of the genitalia

Dr. Osterberg is also a nationally renowned speaker who has lectured nationally and internationally on urologic reconstruction. He has authored more than 85 peer-reviewed publications and numerous textbook chapters, and he serves as an expert reviewer for peer-reviewed urologic reconstruction and men’s health journals. His surgical techniques have caught the interest of international surgeons looking to observe and learn the newest and most advanced reconstructive techniques. Dr. Osterberg has also been nominated by his peers as a Top Doctor in Austin Monthly for the past three years – 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, 2025.

Putting Patients First

Most importantly, Dr. Osterberg is revered for his compassionate care. He saw first-hand the effects of complications from prostate and bladder cancer in his own Father and feels that this experience helps him to better relate to patients, understand their needs and ultimately be better urologist. Dr. Osterberg always puts his patients first and treats them the way he would want himself or a family member treated.

Dr. Osterberg is married with two young school-aged children. When he is not working, they enjoy spending time as a family and like to travel to destinations where they can go skiing or swimming. He and his wife also enjoy the food scene and culture of New York City, where they first met.
