Dr. Patrick Zielie attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, where he received his Bachelor of Biology, Summa Cum Laude with honors in 1993, and his Doctorate of Medicine in 1998, from Boston University School of Medicine, in Boston, MA. He completed six years of training in general surgery and urology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester, MA. His interests include all areas of urology with special interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgeries.

Dr. Zielie always knew he wanted to be a doctor. He never thought of pursuing another career path.  During medical school found that he was interested in being a surgeon, so he began to explore surgical specialties. Boston University had a very robust Urology department, and he was exposed to the field of urology early on and found it to be very interesting.

He liked that at the time he was finishing school, the urological procedures were evolving and becoming more minimally invasive. Once Dr. Zielie finished his training he went into practice in Topeka, Kansas.  There he was on the frontier of minimally invasive surgery and was at the time the only surgeon in Topeka, who was performing laparoscopic surgery. He was also an early adopter of robotic surgical techniques.

Dr. Zielie also liked urology because treating urological patients so often you were relieving pain or solving a problem that made them grateful and happy. He likes to treat all of his patients with compassion and give them the information that they need to help guide them to making to the making the best decision about their treatment together.

Dr. Zielie is married and his wife is a pediatric dermatologist who grew up in Memphis. They like the smaller size of Memphis and the friendly people. When they are not working they enjoy the simple things and like spending time together at home reading books, and watching movies.  They also enjoy traveling.
